Dear Mr. Clark,
Hi my name is Domenic Cartelli, I’m 9 years old and I really like to skateboard because usually I would play hockey in the winter and I really can’t play it in the summer right and I really think that skateboarding is like playing hockey. I’ve been skateboarding for two years. I got my first skateboard when I was 6 years old. My best trick is the kick flip. But, I really can’t land it yet. If I had a skate park to practice in I would be able to stick it. The only other skatepark there is is Vertigo in Brookfield. I only get to go there once in a while because it’s too much money and I have three younger siblings. So, it’s hard to get there. My favorite pro skateboarder is Mike Valley. I like him because he usually does all the kind of hand stand tricks. And, he flicks it around. It’s cool!!!!

It’s really important to me and my friends to have a skatepark in Newtown. We’re are always trying to build and make our own ramps with the same supplies. Sometimes, it works but most of the time it doesn’t. We would love to be able to ride our bikes or walk or be dropped off at a park instead of annoying people on the street.

I hope you can print my letter because I want everyone in Newtown to know how important it is.

REASONS TO HAVE
A SKATEBOARD PARK

Benefits to skaters:
• A sense of a place that they can call their own.
• An opportunity to channel their energy to something positive.
• A safe place to go after school.
• A legal park where they cannot receive a citation.

Benefits to the community:
• Kids off the streets.
• A sense of pride in showing that the government, local business, kids (who will one day be voters), parents, and police officers can work together for one goal.
• The town will become a safer place for everyone.

Benefits to local businesses:
• A relief from skaters using their property to skate.
• An opportunity to contribute to the quality of life in their town. Making a better community does make better business.
